Reading more in the book “The Writer’s Journey” by Christopher Vogler.
He talks about Archetype characters … not necessarily that each of these have to be “individual characters” in your story, but that these are “personality masks” that your characters would wear at certain points in your story.THE MOST COMMON AND USEFUL ARCHETYPES
For the storyteller, certain character archetypes are indispensable tools of the trade. You can’t tell stories without them. The archetypes that occur most frequently in stories, and that seem to be the most useful for the writer to understand, are:

  1. HERO
  2. MENTOR (Wise Old Man or Woman)
  3. THRESHOLD GUARDIAN
  4. HERALD
  5. SHAPESHIFTER
  6. SHADOW
  7. ALLY
  8. TRICKSTER
